Trivial

With current world events, and so much tragedy and cruelty (Boston Marathon bombing, rape in India, earthquakes) in the forefront, I often feel that we are in a unreal materialistic sheltered bubble in Singapore. What I write about seems so trivial. Food and malls? I feel red faced, even though it’s one of the little things in life we enjoy here and it’s the main recreation in tiny urban island like ours, where we need to find shelter from the scorching sun. The biggest search I get on the blog is for factory outlet stores (signaling that people here want to buy branded goods at a low cost). It’s why I’ve just had no mood to write lately apart from articles I’ve written some time ago and posted recently.

I am also hindered by the fact that I am reluctant to write about things that truly mean the most to me as I need to protect the privacy of my family. At times like this being so guarded and private hurts the writing, and makes me question why I continue. The blog is a loss making venture as I am reluctant to go commercial (unless I can pick the products I really like) and I still have to pay for the domain address etc. Makes me sometimes wonder if I should migrate back to the free wordpress account and the blog name I started with and prefer ‘Tiny Island’.
